Cool Fact...
All humans have DNA structure that is 99.9% similar!
Task 1
Up until now you have been learning about DNA, which stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. Today you will be introduced to a new type of nucleic acid...RNA. Before you can understand the concept of transcription and translation you have to know about RNA. Watch the video below to compare and contrast these two molecules.

Task 2
Now you will practice transcribing DNA into mRNA. Click here to try out your skills!

Task 3
Why are some genes expressed while other remain silent but present in our DNA? Watch the video to find out.
Task 4
So now that you know how mRNA is transcribed you are going to discover how a protein is made. Watch the video below and complete the back page of the Amoeba Sisters handout. Be sure to

Task 5
Watch the video to the side to see how to interpret a codon chart.
Practice makes perfect. Now you will practice. Be sure to use a codon chart that can be found at table 3. Click Here for your practice activity. If you miss more than two please see Mrs. Folks for a tutorial. |
