Learning Goals:
1. I will analyze different evolutionary mechanisms including genetic drift, gene flow, recombination, natural selection, non-random mating, polyploidy, and mutation.

How is their so much variation? Find a unique organism on line and post it to Google classroom. Be sure to include a description of it's unique adaptation and how it helps it survive along with a picture.
Task 1
Can human beings impact the evolution of a species? Complete the moth predator activity on pre-industrial forest and then post industrial forest. Be sure to write down the results for each in your CJ.

Task 2
Read this short article to find out if humans can have an effect on the evolution of a species. Answer the following questions in your journal:
1. Which color moths are most fit for an unpolluted environment? Use your results to support your
answer.
2. Which color moths are most fit for a polluted environment? Use your results to support your
answer.
3. What variations existed in the moth population?
4. Was there differential reproductive success in the moth population? Explain.
5. Were successful traits passed on to the next generation?
6. Did the population change over several generations?
7. What process plays out in this simulation?

Task 4
Complete the vocabulary puzzle found at the lab stations. Take a picture for your book creator.
Task 5
Assignment: turn in pictures of your final product on Google classroom
Choose an Option:
1. natural selection
2. genetic drift
3. non-random mating
4. gene flow
5. mutation
6. sympatric speciation
7. allopatric speciation
8. recombination
- You will now model 3 different mechanisms of micro-evolution of your choosing. You will model this using star fish. Collect your star fish from Mrs. Folks. You will also need to collect your micro-habitats (paper islands) from Mrs. Folks. You will find a partner that is at the same point to complete this activity.
- You will now model different types of micro-evolution. Use stop-motion, Toon-Tastic or Puppet Pals or any other appropriate app to complete the activity. You will model at least 3 of the following and predict the outcome on future generations.
- You will now model different types of micro-evolution. Tell a story using 3 of the concepts below as the driving force behind your plot. Use Book Creator, Toon-Tastic, or Puppet Pals.
1. natural selection
2. genetic drift
3. non-random mating
4. gene flow
5. mutation
6. sympatric speciation
7. allopatric speciation
8. recombination
Challenge the Gauntlet!
Log onto Google Classroom and take the Bronze Micro-Evolution Quiz.
Task 6: Didn't pass the gauntlet...complete the activity below before re-testing.
Complete the scenario sort at the lab stations
